Frequently Asked Questions About Our School Programs

Planning the right program for your students can raise plenty of questions.
Below, you will find clear information about our school wellbeing programs, mentoring, boxing based programs, fitness sessions, school gyms, workshops and incursions.

What does Healthy Teens provide?

Healthy Teens delivers practical school programs that use movement, mentoring and meaningful conversation to support student wellbeing, confidence, behaviour and engagement.

Schools engage Healthy Teens for:

• Student mentoring programs
• Boxing therapy and emotional regulation programs
• Empowerment programs
• Self defence and emotional control workshops
• Respectful relationships and student wellbeing keynotes
• School gym programs
• Strength and conditioning academies
• Fitness and physical activity incursions
• Female only fitness and wellbeing sessions

Schools can begin with a single workshop, run a targeted multiweek program or establish an ongoing partnership.

What makes Healthy Teens different?

Our programs are practical, engaging and built for real school environments.

Students are not expected to sit through another long presentation. They learn through movement, guided discussion, physical challenges, reflection and positive interaction with experienced facilitators.

We combine physical activity with social and emotional learning so students can practise skills such as self control, confidence, communication, resilience, teamwork and decision making.

We also work closely with schools to understand the needs of each student group rather than delivering a generic program.

Which schools do you work with?

We work with government, independent, Catholic, specialist and alternative education settings.

Programs can be delivered across primary and secondary schools, with content adjusted for student age, development and school priorities.

We work with schools throughout Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate.

Choosing the Right Program

Which year levels are your programs suitable for?

Our programs can be adapted for upper primary and secondary students.

The language, activities, discussion topics and physical intensity are adjusted for each year level.

Some programs are designed for broad year level groups, while others are more suitable for selected students who may benefit from additional support.

Can you help us choose the most suitable program?

Yes.

You do not need to know exactly which program you want before contacting us.

Tell us what your school is experiencing, which students you want to support and the outcomes you would like to achieve. We will recommend the most suitable program, delivery format and next step.

Can programs be customised?

Yes.

Every school has different students, challenges and priorities.

Programs can be adjusted based on:

• Student age
• Group size
• Gender
• Behavioural needs
• Cultural background
• Fitness levels
• School wellbeing priorities
• Available facilities
• Program length
• Desired outcomes

Customisation may include changes to activities, discussion topics, delivery style, reporting and session structure.

Can you work with targeted student groups?

Yes.

We regularly work with targeted cohorts, including students who may be experiencing:

• Disengagement from school
• Low confidence
• Poor emotional regulation
• Anger or conflict
• Low motivation
• Social isolation
• Behavioural concerns
• Difficulty participating in traditional sport
• Challenges with teamwork or communication
• Limited access to positive role models

We can work with small groups, selected cohorts or individual students, depending on the program.

Are your programs suitable for girls?

Yes.

We provide mixed group, boys only and girls only programs.

Our female only sessions can include fitness, boxing, confidence, wellbeing, empowerment, self defence, body confidence and emotional regulation.

Programs can also be adapted for girls schools or schools seeking a more targeted approach for female students.

Do you work with culturally diverse students?

Yes.

Healthy Teens has extensive experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students, newly arrived students and young people who may not connect easily with traditional wellbeing programs.

We use practical delivery, relatable facilitators and culturally responsive communication to help students feel respected, included and comfortable participating.

Program Delivery

How are sessions delivered?

Sessions may include a combination of:

• Physical activity
• Boxing drills
• Fitness challenges
• Partner activities
• Group discussion
• Reflection
• Goal setting
• Teamwork tasks
• Scenario based learning
• Emotional regulation strategies
• Student workbooks or take home activities

The structure depends on the program, student group and desired outcomes.

Do students need to be fit or athletic?

No.

Students do not need any previous fitness, gym, boxing or sporting experience.

Activities are designed to be inclusive and can be adjusted for different ability levels.

Our focus is participation, confidence, effort and personal development rather than sporting performance.

How many students can participate?

Group sizes depend on the program.

Some mentoring and behaviour focused programs work best with smaller groups, while keynotes, workshops and incursions can be delivered to larger cohorts or whole year levels.

We will recommend an appropriate group size based on your objectives, facilities and available staff support.

How long are the programs?

Healthy Teens programs can be delivered as:

• One off workshops
• School wellbeing days
• Four week programs
• Six week programs
• Eight week programs
• Term based programs
• Ongoing school partnerships

Sessions are commonly delivered weekly, although other formats can be arranged.

Can sessions run during school hours?

Yes.

Sessions can be delivered:

• During class time
• During physical education classes
• At lunchtime
• Before school
• After school
• As part of a school wellbeing day
• During an alternative timetable
• As part of a sports academy or elective program

We work with schools to find a format that suits their timetable.

Do school staff need to be present?

Yes.

A school staff member should remain available during sessions and support the management of attendance, student wellbeing, medical information and significant behavioural concerns.

Healthy Teens facilitators lead the program activities, while the school retains its usual duty of care and student support responsibilities.

What facilities are required?

Facility requirements vary depending on the program.

Many sessions can be delivered in a gymnasium, multipurpose room, classroom, outdoor area or school gym.

We will discuss your available space before confirming the program.

Do schools need to provide equipment?

In most cases, Healthy Teens can provide the specialised equipment required for the program.

Schools may be asked to provide access to a suitable space and any existing school equipment that may be useful.

Equipment requirements will be confirmed before delivery.

Safety and Student Support

Are your facilitators qualified?

Healthy Teens facilitators are selected for their experience working with young people, their practical coaching ability and their capacity to build positive relationships with students.

Facilitators may have backgrounds in fitness, youth mentoring, education, boxing, martial arts, wellbeing or community work.

Relevant qualifications, Working with Children Checks and insurance documentation can be provided to schools as required.

How do you manage safety?

Student safety is a priority in every program.

Sessions are structured with clear expectations, appropriate supervision, progressive activities and safe coaching practices.

Physical activities are adjusted for student age, experience and ability.

Before delivery, we discuss student needs, medical considerations, injuries, behaviour concerns and any necessary modifications with the school.

Is boxing safe for students?

Our school boxing programs focus on fitness, technique, discipline, confidence and emotional regulation.

Students are not placed into uncontrolled fighting situations.

Activities may include pad work, footwork, fitness drills, defensive movement and structured partner activities under facilitator supervision.

The exact session format is explained to the school before the program begins.

How is physical contact managed?

Any physical contact is structured, supervised and appropriate to the activity.

Students are taught clear boundaries, safe participation and respect for others.

Activities can be modified for students who are uncomfortable with contact or have medical, cultural or personal considerations.

Can students with injuries or additional needs participate?

In many cases, yes.

Schools should provide relevant information before the program so activities can be adjusted where appropriate.

We can modify exercises, reduce physical intensity or provide alternative participation options.

Where necessary, we may recommend medical clearance or consultation with the student’s support team.

How do you respond to challenging behaviour?

Our facilitators use clear expectations, calm communication, positive reinforcement and practical engagement strategies.

We focus on building trust while maintaining consistent boundaries.

For targeted programs, we work with the school to understand known triggers, support needs, behaviour plans and appropriate responses before delivery begins.

Healthy Teens programs complement the school’s existing student support processes. They do not replace clinical, psychological or specialist services.

What happens if a student shares a serious wellbeing concern?

Our facilitators create supportive environments, but Healthy Teens is not a counselling or crisis service.

If a student shares information that raises concerns about their safety or wellbeing, the facilitator will follow the school’s child safety and reporting procedures and promptly involve the appropriate school staff member.

How is student privacy handled?

Student information is treated respectfully and only collected when it is necessary for program delivery, evaluation or reporting.

Any surveys or assessments are agreed upon with the school before the program begins.

Reports generally focus on group outcomes and program observations rather than unnecessary personal information.

Healthy Teens facilitators also follow the school’s procedures for responding to wellbeing disclosures or child safety concerns.

Results Schools Have Seen

Healthy Teens programs are designed around meaningful and measurable outcomes.

Recent school programs have reported improvements in student confidence, motivation, participation, emotional control and willingness to engage.

Depending on the program, schools may also receive student survey results, teacher feedback, facilitator observations and recommendations for future support.

Examples from recent programs include:

• 100% of participating students reported becoming more motivated
• 87.5% reported feeling more in control of their anger
• 88.9% said they would definitely recommend the program to other students

Results vary depending on the program, student group and delivery format.

Can you provide references or examples from other schools?

Healthy Teens has delivered programs across a range of government, independent, Catholic and specialist education settings.

We can share relevant program examples, school feedback, student outcomes and references where appropriate.
