Youth Fitness and Mentoring for NDIS Participants
Building Confidence, Skills and Independence Through Movement
Healthy Teens provides personalised fitness and wellbeing support for teenagers and young adults with disability. Through practical, enjoyable and carefully adapted sessions, we help participants become more active, build confidence, develop healthy routines and participate more independently in fitness and community environments. Every participant is different. Sessions are shaped around the young person’s abilities, interests, communication preferences, support needs and personal goals.
Challenges Are What Make Life Interesting,
Overcoming Them Is What Makes Life Meaningful
Who We Support
Our services may be suitable for teenagers and young adults who want support to:
- Become more physically active
- Build strength, coordination and movement skills
- Develop confidence using a gym
- Learn how to use exercise equipment safely
- Improve motivation and participation
- Establish healthier routines
- Build independence
- Practise communication and social skills
- Feel more comfortable in fitness or community settings
- Work towards relevant personal or NDIS goals
Participants do not need previous gym or exercise experience.
Before support begins, we take time to understand what the participant enjoys, what they want to achieve and what adjustments may help them participate safely and confidently.
What Sessions May Include
Personalised Fitness
Age appropriate strength, cardio, mobility and movement activities adapted to the participant’s current ability and experience.
Gym Confidence
Support to become familiar with gym equipment, understand basic exercise techniques and feel more comfortable participating in a fitness environment.
Boxing Based Fitness
Non contact boxing drills that can support fitness, coordination, concentration, confidence and emotional regulation.
Coordination and Movement
Games and practical exercises that encourage balance, body awareness, coordination and active participation.
Goal Setting and Healthy Routines
Support to set realistic goals, monitor progress and establish positive routines around movement, wellbeing and participation.
Social and Community Participation
Where appropriate, sessions may help participants practise communication, decision making and participation in shared fitness or community settings.
Healthy Teens provides fitness, mentoring and wellbeing support. We do not provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, psychology or clinical therapy.
Support Built Around the Participant
There is no standard program that every participant must follow.
Activities can be changed, simplified or progressed according to the participant’s needs and response.
A personalised approach may consider:
- The participant’s goals
- Activities they enjoy
- Current movement and fitness ability
- Communication preferences
- Sensory needs
- Physical or medical considerations
- Confidence in unfamiliar environments
- Behavioural or emotional support needs
- Advice from parents, carers or health professionals
- The level of prompting or assistance required
Participants are encouraged to make choices, communicate their preferences and take an active role in their support.
Their dignity, privacy, boundaries and right to say no are respected throughout the program.
Real Progress at an Individual Pace
Progress looks different for every participant.
For one person, progress may mean completing an exercise independently. For another, it may mean entering a gym with greater confidence, communicating a preference, following a routine or participating for longer.
We focus on meaningful and realistic progress rather than comparing participants with other people.
“Since starting with Healthy Teens, we have noticed a real change in our child’s confidence and willingness to participate. Activities are adapted to suit their ability, and they are encouraged without ever feeling pressured or compared with others. They are now more comfortable using gym equipment, following a routine and trying things independently. It has been wonderful to see them feel proud of their progress.”

- A suitable gym
- A school fitness facility
- A community recreation setting
- An appropriate outdoor location
- Another agreed venue
One to one and small group options may be available.
Healthy Teens primarily services Melbourne and selected surrounding areas. Venue suitability, accessibility, equipment, supervision and any travel costs will be confirmed before sessions begin.

Using NDIS Funding
NDIS funding may be available where the proposed support is directly connected to the participant’s disability support needs, goals and available funding.
Standard gym memberships, ordinary recreational expenses and general fitness costs are generally not NDIS supports. However, disability related assistance that enables a participant to access or take part in an activity may be fundable in some circumstances.
Funding approval is not guaranteed. Participants should confirm that the service is appropriate for their plan with their plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIS before booking.
Healthy Teens can provide:
- Service information
- Written quotes
- Invoices
- Session records
- Relevant progress information
- Information for plan managers or support coordinators
Healthy Teens is an unregistered NDIS provider.
We may provide suitable supports to participants who self-manage or plan-manage their NDIS funding. Participants using NDIA-managed funding generally need to use registered providers for those supports.

Healthy Teens is committed to providing support that is safe, respectful and person centred.
Our approach includes:
- Participant choice and consent
- Pre exercise screening
- Reasonable adjustments
- Clear and respectful communication
- Age appropriate activities
- Safe equipment use

- Relevant Working with Children Checks
- Respect for personal information and privacy
- Communication with authorised support people where appropriate
Participants or their representatives must tell us about any medical conditions, injuries, allergies, medications or support requirements that could affect safe participation.
Medical or allied health clearance may be requested where there is uncertainty about whether an activity is appropriate.
Healthy Teens follows the NDIS Code of Conduct when delivering NDIS supports. The Code applies to both registered and unregistered providers and workers
Working With Families and Support Teams
With appropriate permission, Healthy Teens can communicate with:
- Parents and carers
- Support coordinators
- Plan managers
- Schools
- Allied health professionals
- Other members of the participant’s support team
This can help us understand the participant’s needs, maintain consistency and ensure that activities remain appropriate.
Healthy Teens does not replace medical or allied health advice. Where necessary, we may recommend seeking guidance from a doctor, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, exercise physiologist or another qualified professional.
